Back pain is a very common condition, with around 80% of people reporting back pain at some stage in their lives.
The spine is a complex structure made up of joints, bones, muscles, ligaments and nerves. Between the bones of the spine (vertebrae) we also have intervertebral discs that act as shock absorbers and allow movement in the spine. All of these structures can become painful and can contribute to back pain.
